Membership
Three hundred and fifty kroner. That is what it costs to become a member of the Ridderrennet Association for a year. That’s about fifty p a week. A fraction of what you’d pay for a single coffee-to-go in most of the places you would actually want to have a coffee.
For that princely sum you join several thousand other people who, over the years, have decided that sport, snow and stubborn optimism are rather a good combination, and that inclusion is something worth backing with both shoulder and wallet.
What you get for your 350 kroner
Strictly speaking, membership is not a gym card with perks. It is a quiet act of support for something we rather like in the world. That said, the perks are not nothing:
- Discounted rates at Ridderweek. Members pay less on accommodation and entry to our events. It usually wipes out the cost of the membership several times over in a single week.
- Our flats at Beitostølen, at members' rates. We own two flats on the mountain: Beitotind 1303 and 1404. Members can rent them at a friendlier price than the general public. Ideal for weekends that feel slightly longer than they really ought to.
- A seat at the General Meeting. Come along, raise your hand, vote on the things that matter. This is a proper members' association, not a newsletter.
- A say in who runs the place. You can put names forward to the nomination committee for election to the Board. If you have always wanted to nudge a Norwegian ski association in a particular direction, here is your chance.
Why members matter
Every time someone new signs up, three things happen. We take a very small, very cheerful step closer to our next funding round. A participant somewhere finds that it is a little easier to say yes to their first week on skis. And a volunteer, somewhere else, gets a bit more of what they need to keep turning up. Multiply that, year after year, and you get something that looks rather a lot like a movement.
Who joins?
Former participants and their families. Volunteers. Companion skiers past and present. People who have never set foot on a pair of skis in their lives but rather like the idea of what we do. You do not need to have skied with us to be a member. You do not even need to live in Norway. You do need to fancy being part of it.
Signing up
It takes about the length of one chairlift ride. Registration happens through our events system, which handles both membership and event sign-ups in the same place:
You can also tick the membership box when you sign up for Ridderweek, if that feels like one fewer form to fill in.
